President Emerita of CAUSE
Jane N. Ryland is President Emerita of CAUSE, the association for managing and using information resources in higher education, an organization which subsequently merged with Educom to form EDUCAUSE. She served as CAUSE President from 1986 to 1998. She currently consults with Internet2 and has been an OCLC Board trustee since 2000.
Jane began her career as a systems engineer with the IBM Corporation, and later held marketing positions with both Storage Technology Corporation and Reference Technology, Inc. At Virginia Tech, she directed the development of automated library systems, and was Virginia Tech's first database administrator. She also served as the Virginia Community College System's database administrator, and directed computing activities for the statewide system of 23 community colleges. Under a contract from the National Center for Education Statistics, she administered the SHEEO/NCES Communication Network for the State Higher Education Executive Officers. During her tenure at CAUSE, Jane served for eight years on the CNI Steering Committee.
Jane has published and presented widely on the management of information resources in higher education. She has served on the National Association of College and University Business Officers Board of Directors, the VTLS, Inc. Board of Directors, the Association of Higher Education Facilities Officers Board of Directors, the COLLEGIS Board of Directors and the Eduprise Advisory Board. In recognition of her emphasis on the importance of educational programs to support and develop information technology professionals throughout higher education, the EDUCAUSE Jane N. Ryland Fellowship Program bears her name.
Jane holds a BA in English literature from Westhampton College of the University of Richmond, and an MPA in management systems from the University of Colorado.
