Training and career development

OCLC recognizes that our staff must continue to develop their skills and knowledge in order to meet the challenges of a demanding library environment in a rapidly changing information age. OCLC encourages employees to continue their professional development through ongoing training, membership in professional groups and attendance at conferences.

In-house training

Each year, our staff development specialists conduct and coordinate hundreds of training and development sessions that respond to specific organizational and employee needs. OCLC corporate instructors coordinate training and development in such areas as:

  • Information Technology
  • Management and Leadership Development
  • Individual and Personal Development
  • Sales and Customer Service
  • Team and Group Development
  • Office Automation
  • Human Resources and Employment Law
  • International and Language Training

In addition, well-known business, computer, library, and management consultants visit our Dublin Ohio campus regularly to lead seminars, discussions and workshops.

OCLC Center for Leadership Development

The OCLC Center for Leadership Development, developed in partnership with The Ohio State University Fisher College of Business, is comprised of seminars and coursework that strengthen general business and leadership skills in the OCLC management team in preparation for new business challenges.

Educational assistance

OCLC reimburses tuition costs based on achievement, up to a pro-rated maximum of $5,250.00 per calendar year at accredited institutions of higher education. Courses taken must be relevant to the employee's current job or to a position to which the employee may reasonably aspire.
